Abilene Woman and Eula ISD Student Killed in Highway 36 Crash

CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas – A tragic crash on Highway 36 claimed the lives of an Abilene woman and an 11-year-old student from Eula ISD on Wednesday evening.

Kaley Loren DeMasters, 36, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene near FM 603 around 7:30 p.m. The young student, whose name has not been released, died while being transported to a hospital.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred when DeMasters allegedly disregarded a stop sign and collided with an 18-wheeler. The truck driver suffered only minor injuries.

Eula ISD released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are grieving the loss of a student in our district following a tragic car accident. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, classmates, and staff affected by this loss.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
