AHOSKIE, N.C. — The Ahoskie community is mourning the tragic loss of 48-year-old Corey Lamont Brown, who was fatally shot on the morning of January 28, 2026.
According to the Ahoskie Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:23 a.m. to the 200 block of West Rogers Street following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located Brown, who was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
Authorities report that the suspect, 65-year-old Leandrew Vinson, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. A thorough investigation determined that Brown and Vinson were involved in an apparent disagreement, during which Vinson allegedly shot Brown, resulting in his death. Vinson has been charged with First Degree Murder and is currently confined at the Hertford County Detention Center under no bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for January 30, 2026, at Hertford County District Court.
The Ahoskie Police Department, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation were all involved in the investigation.
