GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. — Two people were killed late Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 76 in Gloucester City, according to New Jersey State Police.
Authorities identified the victims as Angel Roque, 25, of Camden, New Jersey, and Lizvette Alvarado, 18, of Paulsboro, New Jersey.
State Police said the crash occurred near milepost 1.2 on northbound I-76, approximately one mile from the Walt Whitman Bridge. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle left the roadway after encountering snow and ice, before striking a guardrail, a light pole, and a wall.
Investigators said Roque, who was driving the vehicle, lost control, causing the car to go airborne and exit the highway. Both Roque and Alvarado were ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to State Police.
The New Jersey State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including road conditions, vehicle speed, and other possible contributing factors. No information has been released regarding impairment.
The Gloucester City Police Department, emergency medical services, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. The highway was temporarily closed while investigators examined the crash site and crews cleared debris.
This crash marks a two-fatality incident on I-76 in Gloucester City within the past year. Authorities are reminding drivers to use caution during winter weather conditions, noting that snow and ice can significantly impact vehicle control.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
