Astoria Woman Identified in Fatal Columbia County Crash

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ore. — Oregon State Police have identified the victim of a deadly two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 as 23-year-old Alissa Jenay Jarvis of Astoria.

The crash occurred Monday evening around 6:54 p.m. near milepost 51. Preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling eastbound and operated by 34-year-old Lorenza Gaspar-Mateo of Longview, Washington, crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with Jarvis’ Subaru Crosstrek.

Jarvis was pronounced dead at the scene. Gaspar-Mateo was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have identified impairment and lane safety as primary contributing factors in the crash.

The collision caused Highway 30 to be closed for about five hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. Oregon State Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

This tragic incident has left the Astoria and Columbia County communities mourning the loss of Jarvis, a young woman whose life was cut short in this devastating crash.
