Baldwin County Man Charged in Neighbor’s Fatal Shooting

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — A 45-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 40-year-old neighbor early Friday morning in Baldwin County.

Baldwin County deputies arrested Paul David Maxwell in connection with the death of Charles Lee Douglas II, both residents of Foley.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a home on Sandy Creek Drive, near Highway 98 between Elberta and Foley, around 3:30 a.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, Douglas II was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators say Maxwell, described as an acquaintance of Douglas, admitted to the shooting during interviews. Authorities reported that the two had spent time together earlier in the evening drinking. Maxwell left the scene but later drove to his residence and called 911 to report the incident himself.

Maxwell is currently being held at Baldwin County Jail on a $200,000 bond. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
