Brownsville Community Mourns Loss of 15-Year-Old Angel Guerra in Accidental Shooting

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The Brownsville Police Department is investigating the tragic death of 15-year-old Angel Guerra, who was fatally shot on January 30, 2026, on the 1300 block of S. Indiana Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate that the shooting occurred when a 14-year-old juvenile was handling a firearm and a round was accidentally discharged, striking Angel in the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have arrested the 14-year-old juvenile, who is facing manslaughter charges, and the firearm’s owner, 25-year-old Edgar Alexis Flores, who was charged with Making a Firearm Accessible to a Child Causing Serious Bodily Injury/Death, a Class A misdemeanor. Flores was released on a $5,000 bond.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy for the Brownsville community,” said police officials. “Our hearts go out to Angel’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Brownsville Police Department.
