CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Clearwater man was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, authorities said.
Elbert Gilbert, 60, was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk around 9:30 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle, possibly a red 2020s Ford Mustang with front-end damage, which fled the scene, according to the Clearwater Police Department. Gilbert was transported to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert but was pronounced dead later that evening.
The driver has not yet been identified, and the Clearwater Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 727-562-4242.
Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, a major east-west roadway in Clearwater, experienced temporary traffic disruptions while emergency personnel responded. Authorities continue to remind residents and visitors to exercise caution when crossing busy streets and to remain alert in high-traffic areas.
