NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans community is mourning the loss of Alvin Garabold, assistant principal at Salmen High School in Slidell, who was fatally shot Tuesday morning in the Treme neighborhood.
Garabold, who had served at Salmen High since August 2023, was found in the 1500 block of Gov. Nicholls Street around 6:30 a.m. Police say he was the victim of a shooting, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
In response to the tragedy, Salmen High provided grief counselors on campus Wednesday to support students and staff. His colleagues described Garabold as a dedicated educator and mentor who made a lasting impact on the school community.

Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest and indictment.
Garabold’s passing is being felt deeply across the city, as friends, colleagues, and students remember him for his commitment to education and his positive influence on the lives of those around him.
