Community Mourns the Loss of Pregnant Teen, Kimari Skinner

The Holmes County, Mississippi community is grieving the tragic and senseless loss of 18-year-old Kimari Skinner, who was fatally shot on January 30, 2026. Kimari, a senior in high school and eight months pregnant, had just celebrated her 18th birthday in November. She was found deceased in the driver’s seat of a vehicle on U.S. 51 near State Park Road by Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers, with apparent gunshot wounds. Another passenger in the vehicle was unharmed.

Kimari was the daughter of Kyndris Brooks (Kyn Brooks), who recently survived a violent attack herself. Kimari’s life had just begun, and she was preparing to become a mother when her future was violently cut short. Her death has sent shockwaves through Holmes County, highlighting the fragility of life and the urgent need for justice and community safety.

Authorities with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact MBI at MBITIPS@dps.ms.gov.
