SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A contractor working at a CVS store in Shaker Heights was found dead inside a trash compactor Wednesday evening, authorities confirmed.
The man was identified as Andrew Strand, 34, of Brunswick, according to Shaker Heights police.
Police were notified just before 10:00 p.m. Wednesday after Strand’s wife contacted authorities, expressing concern when she had not heard from her husband. She told officers she tracked his phone to the CVS located in the 17000 block of Chagrin Boulevard, where Strand was performing contract work.
Officers responded to the location and searched the property. Strand was later found inside a trash compactor at the rear of the building, according to Shaker Heights Police Commander John Cole.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause and manner of death.
“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” Commander Cole said.
In a statement, CVS said it is cooperating fully with police as the investigation continues.
