Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Columbus Crash

Columbus — New details have been released following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Columbus man.

Greg Merchant, coroner of Lowndes County, confirmed that Lafarris Shaquille Barker, 33, was killed in the single-vehicle accident.

According to authorities, Barker was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Bluecutt Road east of Leigh Drive when the vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a driveway, and flipped several times. Barker was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

A crew from Baptist Memorial Hospital (BMH) discovered the crash site and alerted 9-1-1. Barker was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Columbus Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details have not yet been released.
