Deputy Derrick Bonham Killed in the Line of Duty in Weakley County Shooting

WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — The Weakley County community is mourning the devastating loss of Deputy Derrick Bonham, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Friday morning, January 30, 2026, while serving with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Terry McDade confirmed that Deputy Bonham, a Greenfield resident, had served with the sheriff’s office for the past two years. He is survived by his wife and three young children, who now face an unimaginable loss.

Authorities have not yet identified the shooter. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has taken over the investigation as it continues into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. No additional details have been released at this time.

Weakley County, located near the Tennessee–Kentucky border with Dresden as its county seat, has been deeply impacted by the loss of one of its own. Law enforcement agencies across the region have expressed sorrow and solidarity with the Bonham family and the sheriff’s office.

Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett shared condolences, stating:
