Domestic Dispute Turns Fatal at Centennial Gardens Apartments

A woman is dead and another is facing multiple charges following a shooting at an apartment complex in southeast Memphis Monday night, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 6:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 7800 block of Capital Peak Lane East at the Centennial Gardens Apartments. Authorities said the violence unfolded in the parking lot during what investigators described as an apparent domestic dispute between two women.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Leah Carnes, was shot during the confrontation. Officials said a man at the scene drove Carnes to Methodist Germantown, where she was later pronounced dead.

Investigators arrested 33-year-old Jasmine Schreane in connection with the shooting. She has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Felony Vandalism. Authorities said Schreane was booked into jail Tuesday, and as of that time, no bond had been set.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist detectives is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.

Family and friends are now left mourning the sudden loss of Carnes as the community grapples with yet another act of gun violence.
