DUNMORE, Pa. — Dunmore Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night at a residence in the borough.
According to police, patrol officers responded around 8:31 p.m. on February 8, 2026, to 401 Mortimer Street for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Frederick Zantowsky Jr., 47, of that address. He was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said the shooter was located at the same residence and was detained for investigation. Detectives with the Dunmore Police Criminal Investigative Division responded to the scene, conducted interviews, and processed evidence. After being interviewed and cooperating with investigators, the shooter was released from police custody pending further investigation.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages, but at this time they believe the incident was isolated and that there is no danger to the public.
The Lackawanna County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
