Durham Man Killed, Teenage Boy Injured in Separate Wednesday Night Shootings

DURHAM, N.C. — A tragic night of violence in Durham left 47-year-old Tavarus Joyner dead and a 13-year-old boy injured following two separate shootings late Wednesday, according to the Durham Police Department.

The first incident occurred around 9:14 p.m. on the 1100 block of Rosedale Avenue. Police reported that the juvenile was walking near the roadway when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired gunshots in his direction. The boy sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Just over two hours later, at approximately 11:57 p.m., officers responded to a second shooting on the 200 block of East Umstead Street. Authorities found a man, later identified as Tavarus Joyner, 47, lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. Joyner was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made in either case. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Cpl. L.
