COLUMBIA, Ky.— Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Adair County that left a Columbia man dead and his father charged with murder.
According to KSP Post 15, troopers were called to a residence on KY 55 South around 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, following reports of a shooting. Kentucky State Police responded alongside the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.
At the scene, officers found 33-year-old Jordan Hadley of Columbia suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to TJ Sampson Hospital, where he later passed away. The Adair County Coroner pronounced him deceased.
Investigators said Jordan Hadley and his father, 56-year-old Phillip Bruce Hadley of Columbia, were involved in a heated altercation prior to the shooting. Phillip Hadley told investigators there had been an ongoing conflict between him and his son.
According to police, Phillip Hadley stated that his son shoved him multiple times and verbally threatened him, saying, “This is going to end today.” He told investigators that after being shoved twice and as his son approached him again, he pulled a .40-caliber handgun from his waistband and fired, striking his son.
Phillip Hadley told authorities he believed his son was reaching for a handgun, though he admitted he never actually saw one. Court documents indicate that Phillip Hadley’s mother witnessed the altercation and the shooting, which occurred in her backyard.
Phillip Bruce Hadley was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Adair County Detention Center without bond.
Kentucky State Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
