CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — A father was killed and several young athletes were injured Thursday morning when a van carrying the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers girls hockey team was struck by a snowplow and sent down an embankment, according to authorities.

The crash occurred in Clear Creek County, just west of Denver. The Lady Flyers were traveling to a tournament when a Colorado Department of Transportation snowplow lost control and collided with their Sprinter van, pushing it off the roadway.

The driver of the van, identified as the father of one of the players, died at the scene. Emergency responders airlifted one player to a trauma center, and four other players were transported to hospitals by ambulance. Updates on their conditions have not been released.

In a statement on Instagram, the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers said, “We ask that you keep our hockey families in your prayers and that you give them time to sort through the details of this tragic event.”

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash, and the circumstances that led to the collision remain under review.

This remains a developing story, and authorities have not released further updates on the conditions of the injured players.
