Hannibal Grieves Young Life Lost: Anastasia M. Maiden, 19

HANNIBAL, Ill. — The Hannibal community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 19-year-old Anastasia M. Maiden, who died in a tragic traffic crash on Interstate 172 south of Mile Marker 10 on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

According to the Adams County Coroner’s Office, Anastasia was involved in a collision between a semi-truck and an SUV around 3:30 p.m. The SUV sustained severe front-end damage, and Anastasia was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed there were no other serious injuries resulting from the crash.

All southbound lanes in the area were closed for several hours from Exit 10 (IL 96) to Exit 2 (IL 57) while emergency personnel responded and investigated the scene. Illinois State Police are handling crash reconstruction, and both the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office continue their investigations into the cause of the crash.

Anastasia’s sudden and tragic passing has left family, friends, and the community heartbroken. She was a young life filled with promise, taken far too soon. The Adams County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office extend their thoughts to her loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.
