Highway Patrol Identifies Teen Killed in Thursday Wreck

SALISBURY, N.C. — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has identified Victoria Overcash, 17, of Salisbury, as the teen who was killed in a collision on Thursday morning.

According to Master Trooper Whit Efird, the crash occurred on Brown Road near China Grove. Preliminary investigation revealed that Overcash was traveling south when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a garbage truck traveling north. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Overcash, a senior at J.C. Carson High School, leaves behind a grieving family and community. Rowan-Salisbury Schools confirmed that additional counselors were made available on campus Thursday to support students and staff in coping with the tragedy.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to review evidence as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have notified Overcash’s next of kin.
