HARDIN/BULLITT COUNTIES, Ky. — A tragic traffic crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Drew Cookenmaster of Hodgenville Monday morning along Interstate 65 near the Hardin and Bullitt county line, according to the Kentucky State Police.
Troopers reported the collision occurred around 9:46 a.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 103. Investigators say traffic had slowed due to a separate, earlier crash when Cookenmaster’s vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed, and no other injuries were reported. Emergency crews and law enforcement remained at the scene for several hours while investigators reconstructed the crash. The northbound lanes near the Joe Prather exit were closed for approximately three hours, causing delays for motorists.
The Kentucky State Police stated the investigation is ongoing, including a review of traffic conditions and other factors that may have contributed to the collision. Authorities encourage anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information.
Friends, family, and the community are mourning the loss of Drew Cookenmaster, whose life was tragically cut short in this accident. Officials remind drivers to stay alert on busy highways and be cautious of sudden changes in traffic flow.
