CHICAGO — The Chicago community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Melissa Castrejon, a 17-year-old whose life was tragically taken in a West Side shooting Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 9:38 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Latrobe Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood. According to Chicago police, Melissa was seated inside a vehicle when she was shot in the back. She was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where she later passed away, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.
