DOVER, N.C. — The Dover community is mourning the loss of Jimmy Wayne Melvin, 60, who tragically died in a crash early Saturday morning on I-95 in Clarendon County, South Carolina.
According to Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. along the northbound lanes near mile marker 113. Authorities reported that Melvin was driving a 2024 International tractor-trailer when it veered off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail, and collided with a tree. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell confirmed Melvin’s identity. An autopsy is scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in the coming week. The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
