In Loving Memory: Lynchburg Mourns 32‑Year‑Old Victim of Targeted Shooting

LYNCHBURG, Va.— The Lynchburg community is mourning the loss of Kennija Ware, 32, who died following a targeted shooting early Saturday morning on Jackson Street.

According to the Lynchburg Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 2:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 700 block of Jackson Street. Upon arrival, officers determined the location of the shooting and began searching the surrounding area for possible victims, with assistance from family members.

Kennija Ware, a resident of Lynchburg, was located shortly afterward and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Police say the investigation remains in its early stages. Preliminary findings indicate the shooting was targeted in nature, and authorities have confirmed there is no known threat to the public at this time.
