In Loving Memory of Aidan Knowles

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Aidan Knowles, 18, who was fatally shot early Saturday morning outside a popular bar in Lawrence, Kansas.

Family members identified Aidan as the victim in the shooting that occurred outside Jayhawk Cafe, also known as The Hawk, around 2 a.m. His father, Bobby Knowles, confirmed his son’s death in a deeply emotional social media post, describing the family’s overwhelming grief.

“Unfortunately, the news is true. Our son, Aidan, was shot and killed outside a bar in Lawrence early yesterday morning,” Knowles wrote. “We have learned that our son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are completely devastated.”

Lawrence Police officers responded to reports of gunfire and found two victims at the scene. Aidan was pronounced dead from his injuries. A second victim, a 16-year-old, who was described as one of Aidan’s close friends, was also shot. That teen survived and remains in critical condition, according to the latest reports.

Police later located two suspects a few blocks away with the help of K-9 units and drones. Both were taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Jail. Formal charges have not yet been filed, though jail records indicate the suspects were booked on charges including first-degree murder. Authorities emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Aidan’s death has left family, friends, and the wider community in mourning, as loved ones remember a young life taken far too soon. The Knowles family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, messages, and support they have received during this incredibly painful time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say additional details will be released as they become available.
