In Loving Memory of Amanda Smith

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Amanda Smith, 23, who was tragically killed alongside her mother, Cheri Smith, 50, and her brother, Erin Poole, 29, at their family home on N. Sumac Circle on the evening of January 25, 2026.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:35 p.m. after reports of shots being fired. Inside the residence, Cheri Smith, Erin Poole, and Amanda Smith were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Amanda was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but, despite medical care, she succumbed, leaving her family and community devastated. Cheri Smith and Erin Poole were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the altercation involved a known associate of the family, 25-year-old Nijyle Lewis, during which multiple gunshots were fired and a stabbing occurred. Lewis sustained injuries during the incident and was treated at a local hospital. He has since been charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder in connection with the deaths. Authorities confirmed that the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Amanda was known for her warmth, compassion, and close bonds with family, friends, and neighbors. A devoted daughter and sister, she brought joy, kindness, and love to everyone around her. Her life, though tragically cut short, left a lasting impact on those who knew her.

The Fayetteville community continues to offer support and condolences to the family during this unimaginable loss. Amanda Smith’s memory will live on through the love, laughter, and kindness she shared.
