SOUTHERN ALBERTA — The hockey community is grieving the tragic loss of Caden Fine, a talented young athlete and former Birmingham Jr Bulls player, who was among three Southern Alberta Mustangs players killed in a motor vehicle accident on February 2, 2026, while traveling to team practice.
Caden, who wore #22 for the Jr Bulls from 2021–2023, began his love for the game in the House program in 2020. He was known for his infectious smile, unwavering determination, and the grit he brought to every game. Most recently, Caden continued his hockey journey with the Southern Alberta Mustangs for the 2025–2026 season, leaving a lasting impact on teammates, coaches, and the entire hockey community.

“There are no words that can adequately express the depth of our grief,” said the Southern Alberta Mustangs. “These young men were more than hockey players — they were teammates, sons, brothers, friends, and deeply loved members of our Mustangs family and the communities we call home. Our hearts are with the families, friends, billet families, teammates, coaches, and everyone who loved them. We ask that their families be given privacy and compassion as they navigate this devastating loss.”
The Southern Alberta Mustangs organization is working closely with authorities and supporting players, staff, and families in every way possible during this incredibly difficult time.
Caden’s former Jr Bulls family shared:
“Once a Jr Bull, always a Jr Bull. This is a heartbreaking day for our entire hockey community. We extend our deepest condolences to Caden’s family, friends, and teammates during this unimaginable time.”
A GoFundMe has been established to assist Caden’s family with expenses. Donations and shares are welcomed to honor his memory: https://gofund.me/84e079dbe
As Fred Shero once said, “We know that hockey is where we live, where we can best meet and overcome pain and wrong and death. Life is just a place where we spend time between games.” Today, sticks are out for Caden. 🏒
