LAKE FREDERICK, Va. — The Lake Frederick community is mourning the tragic loss of 40-year-old Demetrius Weeden, who was killed early Sunday morning in a crash during a major snowstorm.
The fatal collision occurred around 1:23 a.m. on the 1300 block of U.S. 522 (Front Royal Pike). Authorities reported that Weeden’s 2019 Honda passenger vehicle rear-ended a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) subcontractor operating a heavy-duty snow removal truck, striking the salt-spreading apparatus on the rear of the vehicle. The Honda sustained severe front-end damage, trapping Weeden inside and igniting a small fire. Emergency responders extinguished the flames and removed him from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weeden was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Speed and icy road conditions were cited as contributing factors. No charges are being pursued against the VDOT driver involved.
Demetrius was known by family, friends, and neighbors as a kind and valued member of the Lake Frederick community. His sudden death leaves a deep void, and he is remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police responded to multiple crashes during the snowstorm, highlighting the dangers of winter driving. As the community grieves, thoughts and condolences are with Weeden’s family during this unimaginably difficult time.
Demetrius Weeden’s life, though tragically cut short, will be remembered with love and respect by all who knew him.
