AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin community is mourning the tragic loss of Denise Tijerina, who died on January 28, 2026, following a shooting at her home in the 5900 block of Wagon Bend.
According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call on Monday, January 26, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., reporting that a female had been shot in the head and that the suspect remained nearby. Upon arrival, officers found Tijerina in the kitchen of her residence with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities detained Samuel Boardman, who had fled the scene on foot. Preliminary investigations indicate that Boardman shot Tijerina inside the home before leaving the residence. He was initially arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and released on bond the following day. Following Tijerina’s death on January 28, 2026, Boardman was re-arrested on a First Degree Murder charge.
