The Whitley County community is grieving the devastating loss of Emily Franks, 31, of Kendallville, and her two young children a 1-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son who passed away in a tragic traffic collision on Wednesday evening.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on State Road 9 near County Road 300 North. Investigators determined that the SUV driven by Emily Franks was traveling northbound when it lost control, crossed into the southbound lane, and was struck by an oncoming truck.
Emily Franks died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Her two young children, who were passengers in the SUV, also lost their lives due to the impact. Authorities have not released the children’s names at this time.
The driver of the truck involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Family, friends, and the wider community are left heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of a young mother and her children. Their passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved them.
