FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville community is mourning the tragic loss of Erin Poole, 29, who was fatally shot inside his family home on N. Sumac Circle on the evening of January 25, 2026.
Erin was a beloved son to Cheri Smith, 50, and a devoted brother to Amanda Smith, 23, both of whom also lost their lives in the same tragic event. That evening, an altercation occurred with a known associate of the family, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds. Erin was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a grieving family and community.
Known for his warmth, kindness, and strong ties to those around him, Erin’s loss is deeply felt by family, friends, and neighbors. He is remembered not only as a loving son and brother but also as a valued member of the Fayetteville community.

Authorities have charged Nijyle Lewis, 25, in connection with the deaths of Erin, Cheri, and Amanda. While the circumstances surrounding this tragedy are under investigation, the pain of losing Erin has left an indelible mark on those who knew and loved him.
