In Loving Memory of Jiffery T. Jones

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Bend community is mourning the loss of a man who was fatally shot early Sunday morning on the city’s north side.

According to the South Bend Police Department, the victim has been identified as 48-year-old Jiffery T. Jones of South Bend. His family has been notified of his death, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Police were dispatched around 3:03 a.m. Sunday to the 700 block of North Brookfield Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert indicating possible gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they found Jones suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Despite life-saving efforts by responding officers and emergency personnel, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. At this time, authorities have not released any suspect information, and no arrests have been announced.

As investigators continue working to determine what led up to the deadly shooting, community members and loved ones are left grieving a life lost to violence. Police are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time of the shooting to come forward.
