In Loving Memory of Juan Santos Castro

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin community is mourning the loss of 75-year-old Juan Santos Castro, who was tragically killed Monday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Austin near the airport.

Austin police say the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 1100 block of Bastrop Highway around 2:15 p.m. First responders with Austin-Travis County EMS performed life-saving measures, but Castro was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the driver remained at the scene, was not impaired, and fully cooperated with the investigation. This incident marks Austin’s seventh fatal crash of 2026, bringing the city’s pedestrian and traffic death toll to seven so far this year.
