The Selma community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Mark Miles, who passed away Friday night. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of family, friends, and countless lives he touched through his unwavering dedication to uplifting others.
Mark was widely known for his work with young men in the community, offering guidance, hope, and a path away from the streets. Through his efforts, he impacted countless families and helped change lives, one conversation at a time. His compassion, courage, and commitment to service defined who he was.
In a heartfelt tribute, Pastor John E. Grayson shared the pain felt across Selma:
> “Tonight our community suffered a tragic loss. This hurts something terrible. Brother Mark Miles touched a lot of families, saved countless young men from the streets. We pray for his mother and his whole family. Selma has suffered a great loss.
>
> This has to stop. As a minister, I feel that we should have an answer, an answer that actually works and not just say let’s pray. Sometimes I feel so insufficient because we don’t have an answer, but we keep trying. Every now and then you have a glimpse of hope because one is saved.
>
> To lose a young man who gave his life to what he loved is truly tragic. We stood together in circles with young men and their families. He would often call and ask me to speak with someone he was trying to help. He was the best I know at reaching young men on the streets.
>
> We must find a way to turn this pain into purpose and make his life even more impactful. The devil cannot win.”
Mark Miles’ legacy will live on through the lives he changed and the hope he inspired. As Selma grieves, the community also stands united in prayer, reflection, and a renewed commitment to the work Mark so passionately carried forward.
Prayers continue for his family, loved ones, and the entire Selma community.
