In Loving Memory of Melanie R. Meyers and Kenneth L. Meyers

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. — A community is mourning the loss of Melanie R. Meyers, 51, and Kenneth L. Meyers, 54, after the married couple was found dead Tuesday night on a property west of Huntington in what authorities have described as an apparent homicide-suicide.

Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office responded just before 10 p.m. to a property on West Maple Grove Road in Dallas Township after relatives reported they had not seen the couple for an extended period of time. Concern grew when the couple’s vehicle was discovered parked on the property, prompting a welfare check.

Deputies with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene — which was not the couple’s residence — and found both Melanie and Kenneth Meyers deceased on a lower-level floor of the property. Investigators said evidence indicated the couple had been there for some time. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

The Huntington County Coroner ruled Melanie R. Meyers’ death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. Kenneth L. Meyers also died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide. Both were residents of Huntington.

Autopsies were conducted Wednesday morning at a forensic center in Fort Wayne to confirm the causes and manner of death. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

As news of their deaths spreads, family members, friends, and the Huntington community are left grieving the loss of two lives, reflecting on the sorrow and unanswered questions surrounding the tragedy.
