SURREY, B.C. – The Surrey community is mourning the tragic loss of Naseem Mohammed, 27, who was found deceased following a fatal house fire early Monday morning.
Surrey Police Service officers responded just after 7:00 a.m. on January 12, 2026, to reports of a residential fire in the 12700 block of 56 Avenue. As firefighters worked to extinguish the fully involved home and searched for occupants, they discovered Mohammed inside the residence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sudden and devastating loss of life has left family, friends, and community members grappling with grief. While authorities have stated that Mohammed was known to police and believed to be associated with the B.C. gang conflict, his death is nonetheless a profound tragedy that has deeply affected those who knew him.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the fire, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation and is working closely with Surrey Police Service to determine exactly what occurred. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have information, dashcam footage, or CCTV video from the area of the 12700 block of 56 Avenue between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on January 12 to come forward. Information can be provided by calling the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
