The Alexandria community is mourning the tragic loss of Nurelen Befekadu, age 35, whose life was cut short following a fatal single-vehicle crash in Fairfax County.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:36 a.m. on Interstate 66 westbound, on the ramp to Route 28, according to Virginia State Police. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling too fast for the ramp, causing the driver to lose control and strike a sound wall.
Nurelen Befekadu, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia, was the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital following the crash, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
As news of his passing spreads, family, friends, and members of the Alexandria community are coming together in grief, remembrance, and support for one another. Nurelen’s life and memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
