MACON, Ga. — The Macon community is mourning the sudden loss of Quintavious Vincent Johnson, 24, who tragically died while in custody at the Bibb County Jail on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Authorities reported that during morning medication rounds around 8:30 a.m., correctional deputies and jail medical staff found Johnson unresponsive in his cell. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones confirmed that he was housed alone at the time. Despite immediate efforts by medical staff and emergency responders, Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:30 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley. The cause of death remains under investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled in accordance with protocols for in-custody deaths.
Johnson had been charged in connection with the November 18, 2023, killing of 20-year-old Kealan Tre Hardeman. He was booked into the Bibb County Jail on January 30, 2024, facing charges of murder, pointing or aiming a gun or pistol at another person, and aggravated assault.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation notified. Family members were informed of his passing that morning.
While the circumstances remain under review, the loss of Johnson has deeply affected his family, friends, and the Macon community. Those who knew him remember a young life that ended far too soon.
