Town of Russia, New York — The Town of Russia and surrounding communities are mourning the tragic and untimely loss of Rykah Lyons, age 16, who passed away on Monday evening, February 2, 2026, following a fatal snowmobile accident in Herkimer County.
According to New York State Police, troopers responded at approximately 7:10 p.m. to a report of a snowmobile crash near Riggerman Road. Preliminary findings indicate that Rykah was operating a snowmobile southbound on a secondary trail when she lost control. The snowmobile left the trail and struck a tree, causing fatal injuries. Rykah was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Emergency responders from North Star Ambulance and the Barneveld Fire Department assisted state police. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
