JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville community is mourning the tragic passing of Tony Romo, 31, who passed away late Tuesday night following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Stockton Street.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:51 p.m. when a 2016 Lexus sedan traveling eastbound left the roadway after changing lanes. The vehicle struck a Florida Department of Transportation sign, overturned, and then crashed into an overhead sign support.
Tony was riding as a passenger at the time of the crash. Investigators confirmed that he was wearing a seatbelt, yet sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 45-year-old man from Jacksonville, was ejected from the vehicle and also died at the scene after not wearing a seatbelt.
No other vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Tony Romo is remembered as a cherished son, family member, and friend whose life was taken far too soon. His sudden passing has left family and loved ones heartbroken, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
