In Loving Memory of Tyeshia Jann Hutchins

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham community is mourning the loss of Tyeshia Jann Hutchins, 47, who tragically passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Birmingham City Jail.

Hutchins, a longtime resident of Birmingham, was found unresponsive in her private cell at 10:53 a.m. and was pronounced dead shortly after, at 11:05 a.m. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy, which found no evidence of trauma or foul play. The official cause of death is pending further laboratory results.

Family, friends, and the community remember Tyeshia as a valued member of Birmingham, whose presence and spirit touched those around her. Her sudden passing is a reminder of the fragility of life, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Tyeshia was booked into the jail on January 20 on a disorderly conduct charge. The Birmingham Police Department continues to investigate her death.

During this difficult time, the thoughts and prayers of the community are with Hutchins’ loved ones. May they find strength in their memories of her and in the love and support that surrounds them. Tyeshia’s life, though tragically cut short, will be remembered and cherished.
