The Navajo Nation and communities across northern Arizona are mourning the heartbreaking death of Maleeka “Mollie” Boone, an 8-year-old girl whose life was tragically cut short following her disappearance in the Coalmine area of Arizona.
According to the Navajo Police Department, Maleeka was last seen on Thursday around 6 p.m. playing near Cedar Loop in the Coalmine housing area, approximately 17 miles southeast of Tuba City. When she did not return home, family members reported her missing, stating it was highly unusual for her to be away for such a long period. A Turquoise Alert was issued early Friday as concern for her safety grew.
An extensive search effort was launched, involving the Navajo Nation Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals Service, and other agencies. Search operations focused heavily on the Coalmine Canyon area, where authorities later placed the community under lockdown and asked residents to remain indoors. The FBI established a command post near the scene to assist with coordination.
Tragically, the search ended on Friday when Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was found deceased, less than a day after she was reported missing. Officials have not released details regarding the cause or manner of her death. The investigation is now being led by the FBI and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation, working alongside tribal law enforcement.
