SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 75 that claimed the life of Alex L. Anderson, 27, of Inverness, on Friday morning, February 6, 2026.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred just after 10 a.m. at the County Road 462 overpass. Anderson’s Honda Accord drove off the overpass for reasons still unknown, striking a Volvo SUV before coming to a stop in the southbound lanes of the interstate. The driver of the Volvo, a 61-year-old man from Georgia, sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers are actively investigating the circumstances of the crash. At this time, there is no indication of impairment or foul play. Investigators are examining factors such as roadway conditions, vehicle mechanics, and potential medical issues that may have contributed to the collision.
The crash caused temporary lane closures on I-75 southbound as first responders secured the scene and assisted the injured. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the cause of the crash and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
