Jordan Grant, 20, Dies in Hilo Traffic Crash

The Hilo community is grieving the tragic loss of 20-year-old Jordan Grant, who died in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning, January 29, 2026. Grant, a resident of Hilo, was driving a 1998 silver Honda Civic eastbound on Pauahi Street near Piopio Street when he lost control of his vehicle. The car skidded and struck a metal railing on the Pauahi Street bridge. Grant, the sole occupant, was found unresponsive at the scene.

Fire and medical personnel immediately attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful. Grant was pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m., marking the Big Island’s third traffic-related fatality of the year. Authorities said speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors, though an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Grant’s sudden passing has left family, friends, and the Hilo community heartbroken. As a young life full of promise, his loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. The East Hawai‘i Traffic Enforcement Unit continues to investigate the crash, while the community mourns the absence of a vibrant young man whose future was tragically cut short.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Officer Laurence Davis at 808-961-2339 or Laurence.Davis@hawaiipolice.gov, or remain anonymous by calling CrimeStoppers at 808-961-8300.

Jordan Grant’s life and memory will be cherished by his loved ones and the Hilo community for years to come.
