Kenton County Mourns David Works, 62, Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting

KENTON COUNTY, Ky. — The Kenton County community is mourning the loss of David Works, 62, who tragically died in an officer-involved shooting at his residence on Sharpsburg Drive in Independence on the morning of February 1, 2026.

According to authorities, Works had reportedly been threatening self-harm when Independence Police officers responded to his home around 7:30 a.m. Officers attempted to speak with him, but Works exited the residence carrying a firearm. In response, officers discharged their weapons. First aid was administered at the scene, but unfortunately, Works succumbed to his injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.

The Kentucky State Police have assumed jurisdiction of the investigation, which remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding Works’ death.
