Poplar Bluff — Authorities are investigating after a 69-year-old Arkansas man was found dead Tuesday night after being struck by a train.
According to Jim Akers of the Butler County Coroner’s Office, Charles Lynn Gibson of Hope, Arkansas, was struck by a train at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Gibson was lying on the train tracks and did not move as the train conductor sounded the horn in an attempt to warn him.
Coroner Akers stated that it is believed Gibson may have passed away prior to being struck by the train. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Butler County Coroner’s Office, the Poplar Bluff Police Department, and Union Pacific Railroad.
