Man Killed in Early Morning Assault in Wharton

WHARTON, Texas – Authorities are investigating a fatal assault that occurred early Thursday morning in Wharton.

At approximately 3:03 a.m., the Wharton Police Department responded to a reported assault at 1510 Martin Luther King Blvd. Upon arrival around 3:08 a.m., officers were directed by Quinton Jubbar Farris, 51, to a victim lying in a grassy area near Farris’ home. The victim, later identified as Jerald Jermaine Jackson, 53, was unresponsive and bleeding.

Officers immediately administered first aid while waiting for Wharton EMS. Upon their arrival, Jackson showed no signs of life. JP-4 Drapela performed an inquest and pronounced Jackson deceased at 5:26 a.m. An autopsy is pending.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Jackson and Farris were involved in a physical altercation during which Jackson was stabbed. Farris was detained at the scene and later booked into the Wharton County Jail on a charge of murder.
