Mount Pleasant Man Found Dead After Being Reported Missing

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — A Mount Pleasant community is mourning the loss of James Parker, 67, who was found dead Saturday morning after being reported missing the previous evening.

According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Parker was last seen around 7 p.m. Friday in the Hobcaw Point neighborhood off Mathis Ferry Road, near Bampfield Drive. Police said Parker suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, prompting concern for his safety when he did not return.

Authorities announced around noon Saturday that Parker had been located. Approximately two hours later, the Charleston County Coroner’s Office confirmed that he was found deceased in Hobcaw Creek around 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause and manner of death, according to the coroner’s office.

Parker was remembered as a longtime reporter for The Post and Courier, where he spent years informing and serving the Lowcountry community through his work in journalism.

His death has left colleagues, friends, and residents mourning the loss of a respected journalist and a beloved member of the Mount Pleasant community. Thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
