PA Teen on FaceTime at Time of Deadly Crash

State police say a teenage driver was on FaceTime at the time of a deadly crash in Juniata County early Sunday morning.

According to investigators, the crash occurred when the teen was traveling at a high rate of speed while engaged in a video call. Police said the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the driver dead.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old Charles Raffensberger Jr. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

State police said preliminary findings indicate distraction and speed were factors in the collision. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Authorities are using the incident as a reminder of the dangers of distracted driving, particularly among young and inexperienced drivers.
