Phoenix Police Identify Woman Found Wrapped Along Roadway

PHOENIX — Police have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a woman was found along a west Phoenix roadway late Friday night.

Phoenix police say officers were called just before 11 p.m. to the area of Broadway Road east of 59th Avenue after reports of an object on the side of the road that appeared to be a body. When officers arrived, they found an object wrapped in a large amount of material and were initially unable to determine what it was.

After investigators spent several hours processing the scene, the object was confirmed to be a human body. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office later took possession of the remains.

On Sunday, police identified the victim as 24-year-old Jioenise Summerfield. Authorities believe her death was a homicide, and the investigation remains ongoing.
