Authorities have identified the driver who died following a police pursuit that ended in a crash in downtown Edwardsville over the weekend.
According to the Illinois State Police, the driver was 24-year-old Ryan C. Drew of Hamel.
Investigators said that shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, an officer with the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Police Department attempted to stop a Chevrolet truck that was reportedly driving unsafely on New Poag Road and traveling the wrong way on SIU Northern Access Road.
Police said the truck failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. During the chase, Drew allegedly sped through Edwardsville before losing control of the vehicle. The truck ultimately crashed into Redmon Insurance Agency at 106 South Main Street, causing significant damage to the front of the building.
Drew was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash.
